Umut’s Selection of the Week 015 • Crissy Criss, Malux & Erb N Dub – Airlock [WOSX001]
Crissy Criss has been in our sights for a while now. Whether it’s on stage showcasing his 7 deck sets with Mampi Swift, his monster collabs with Erb N Dub and Malux or as a solo artist. Now he has gone a step further and founded War On Silence, his own label for which he is doing a lot of promo work for, with his America tour for example. For the first taste he has again teamed up with his trusted studio partners and produced the stunning Airlock.
The intro starts very atmospheric with the arpeggiated lead and the long pads. With the onset of the first kick, the mood begins to intensify and on the second kick the roaring bass à la Malux begins to make it clear that the team is taking no prisoners. The third kick initiates the start sequence and boom, you get rocketed in space. The aforementioned bass rolls inexorably and circles around Erb N Dub’s funky drums. But just when it seems like the whole track has shown you all it has to offer there comes this housy, whipping lead at the end of the first part to round it all off. During the transition there is a short time to catch your breath before the familiar builds up cascadingly again to shoot you further into space. From the first to the last second this track is a ride on the devils horse and a must for every DJ set.
Crissy Criss isn’t the first to join the current trend of founding his own label but will stand far out in the long term with high-quality output. Airlock is a prime example of this and I look forward to more stuff from WOS in the future.
