Umut’s Selection of the Week 013 • Mefjus – Pivot (C & K Remix) / Sinkhole (Skeptical Remix) [VSN037]
Looking back on the past year, Mefjus’ album Manifest stands out amongst many excellent LP’s. When it comes to his sound design, the Linz-based producer is still riding at the pinnacle. It’s no wonder, then, that the remix LP attracted so many big names.
The Austrian duo Camo & Krooked really went all out on the monstrous sound construct Pivot. Strolling with funk and full of tonal gimmicks, the guys have taken what little they needed from the tracks original thundering bassline and crafted their own fantastic groove. Creaky, totally twisted lead pattern, tight drum work, what more could you ask for?
Let’s see the b side then, Sinkhole. When I heard that minimalism king Skeptical is going to take on the track, I was completely over the Moon about the prospect, which can only be a good one! I would like to mention his massive attention to quality on this warm, pulsing power bassline beast, which, to be honest, only really comes to life on a club soundsystem. Crystal clear drums from beginning to end, marvellous. With subtle growls here and techno fills there this first-rate roller is complete.
If you can read you can clearly see that I am a total fan of both the original LP and the remixes and most certainly looking forward to more material in the future!
