Umut’s Selection of the Week 006 • The Clamps feat. Nuklear MC – Looking For Trouble / LHS1140b [KOSEN37]
New week, new post! This time with the second single release of The Clamps long awaited album The Odyssey. There is no need to talk about the French specialist anymore. Except maybe that he just founded the label Third Colony Music together with NickBee and Jon Deerhill which focuses on genres like IDM, Deep Electronica, Sci Fi and Ambient. That’s why I am coming straight to the point.
Which is called Looking For Trouble and comes along with vocals from Nuklear MC. The track isn’t taking prisoners and spreads an epic atmosphere thanks to the truly cinematic intro from the beginning. There are long pads on choirs, hard kicks and Nuklear’s unmistakable voice that tells you that if you’re looking for stress you’ll get it too. It’s getting wilder and suddenly you’re standing in the middle of a bass wall that resonates the next day like the Jäger at the last party. Excellent dance floor material, no question. The Reece saws and roars a song along with the synths to which you want to sway. Anyone who is a little puzzled at the beginning of the part will be moved to dance at least from half of the tune by the driving lead bass. As if that weren’t enough Nuklear’s voice flashes, provided with effects, again and again and pushes you further towards the transition. The elements from the intro come back for a short bridge and are getting replaced by whirring stabs to release you into the second part. For this one The Clamps swings the funk-club again and steps with you towards the sunset.
In contrast, LHS 1140b is relatively relaxed even if it makes a lot of pressure. You will probably wonder what the name means. Well, on request to the producer personally, I can provide you with the following information: The name belongs to a recently discovered super planet on which all the necessary living conditions for us humans are given. But enough hard facts and more track review. The track also starts pretty spacey and evolves from an intro soaked in dreamy pads to a true bass wall that just creaks and shoves. The percussion hit on the second beat is floating in filters a bit in the beginning but will become more dominant in the course and brings the necessary funk in the whole soundscape. The Clamps gives new meaning to the term ‘distorted sounds’, which is not bad. In between, more pads shoot in and are giving the whole thing a bit more movement. In the second part, the track gains speed and time just flies by. In the end it will be interesting again but you have to find out yourself.
I can not say it often enough, The Clamps just makes the hot shit and I’m even more fond of his album!
