Umut’s Selection of the Week 005 • The Clamps & Tasha Baxter – The Chase (Fourward Remix) [TKRUK023]
Fourward are definitely no strangers in the Drum & Bass landscape and are considered a luminary in Austria. After their insane EP on Eatbrain [EATBRAIN053] in February, the four guys definitely proved again that they can do a bit harder. For Prolix’ Trendkill Records, they’ve reworked The Chase from The Clamps, created in collaboration with the wonderful Tasha Baxter. The lady shouldn’t be a stranger to connoisseurs anymore and enchanted, among others, tracks from ABIS, Camo & Crooked, Icicle, Spor and The Upbeats with her lovely voice.
The original mix of The Clamps can be described as a proverbial chase and Fourward have given the whole thing something of their flair and hardness on top. Is that even possible? Let’s take a look. In the intro, they weren’t to stingy with Tasha’s voice, which could have been seen as a fatal affront if so. The beautiful pads and the filtered keys work out beautifully. In the process both elements become clearer and clearer and work their way up to the climax. This one has it right in it! Where The Clamps bets on even faster drums, Fourward are slamming that heaviness on top and a sawing Reece does the rest. Direction transition, it is a little bit weird then but really cool, thanks to filters. Take a breath, I’m coming for you, just to go full force once more. In the second part the scenery rocks again really high but dismisses us then in a rather relaxed end! Well done!
Fourward will definitely be exciting and I’m waiting eagerly for new input from the Austrians. From The Clamps comes his new album The Odyssey soon on Kosen and I can tell you one thing: It’s going to be hard as fuck!
