Umut’s selection of the week: Allied – Kailash / Mindstream [MLS008]
For the new edition of my reviews, I chose the sampler of Allied’s upcoming album on Methlab. The label has such a high-quality creative and above all varied output that it is always fun to write about their releases.
Allied has always been synonymous with technoid and organic sound. He proves that with his latest stuff quite well. Kailash, the title song, exhalates a positive conspiratorial atmosphere from the beginning in which you can easily lose yourself. The slightly hitted bongos and claps seduce you into starting ritual dances right here and now. In the main part, pulsating drums are harmonizing with jagged hi-hats and constantly evolving pads. The whole is then garnished with subtle fillings and finished is the perfect steam roller to level the dancefloor.
With Mindstream the Brighton-based producer presents a driving halftime production that can truly be seen. Without losing the vain tribal sound of Kailash, you will find a refreshing twist here. The space between the crisp instruments is filled with bright pads that alternate with darker sounds, which is not a bad aspect. The tinny bell gives the whole thing a bit more groove. Incidentally, the tune works without bridge which is completely ok, because there is enough variety given .
I’m definitely hooked on Allied’s album. As for Methlab, I’m not worried. There certainly will be more than one blast from that camp in the future.
