Umut presents: Naiive – A Different View EP [OCCUPY001]
Do you already know Occupy Sound? In the center of the ever evolving Drum & Bass landscape, this underground flower is sprouting up. The label has dedicated itself to the philosophy of giving artists space for the free unfolding of their production arts. I really like this point of view! The first release comes from Naiive, native Greek, from Manchester, UK.
If you dig beautiful pads and breaks, ‘Left Behind’ definitely picks you up. Vibes is a good catchword for a soulful production with melodic intro (bells!) and creamy tube bass. The female vocal samples have also been used wisely and round off the piece perfectly. For track number two, Naiive teamed up with Xochi and Impro to create a really twisted and bizarre sonic construct. A pinch of adventure, a touch of MC and filigree sound and drum design, that’s ‘Pylons’! Recluse’, the third of the bunch, is a pretty strong and emotional piece. The wind chimes in the intro give me goose bumps, the rumbling bass hits make me smile and the chords bring butterflies to my stomach that I haven’t had since puberty. Very very beautiful! Filmscore is the first thought that comes into my mind whilst listening to ‘What Lies Ahead’. Infinite pads meet profound bass rides and very minimalistic drums. The Sci Fi character is definitely strong in this release! The drop raises the epic level again and releases the listener after a short but wild ride back a bit churned up.
The ‘A Different View EP’ by Naiive is partly cineastic and refreshing with extensive pads, partly classic oldschool with breaks and dirty basses with an overall strong touch of emotions. A promising start for the label!
