Methlab sets a mark • Umut presents: Borrowed Time (Save the Rainforest)
In the past weeks the media has been full of all sorts of confusing stuff, but one thing that is also very close to my heart has unfortunately been overseen. The destruction of the Amazon rainforest is not only taking its course through greedy logging but also through massive fires. MethLab now takes a bit of responsibility and releases ‘Borrowed Time’, a limited edition album with 12 hand-picked tracks by Audeka & Rawtekk, Woulg, Exept & Joanna Syze, Skylark and many more, which will only be available until September 29th. In addition there is a pretty interesting animated video, created by Dutch visual artist Sem Shimla, which visualises the deforestation rate worldwide using World Bank Data. All proceeds will be donated to the David Attenborough certified charity ‘Cool Earth‘.
»While our contribution is likely to be small, we feel that it’s important to do whatever we can to contribute to the efforts to stem this tide. As such, we present a 12 track musical journey on behalf of the artists and our record label, with the track names and order having some significance in terms of the plight, and necessary sacrifices that must be made to change this situation, and the liberation and strengthening of us as inhabitants of this planet—we are guests on this world, and as the apex animals, we have a duty to be caretakers, not to destroy it in the name of greed and temporary meaningless profit.«
Methlab
The relatively young bass music label makes a statement and provides an easy way to help through music. Because it’s a simple thing to use sentences like ‘that doesn’t help anyway’ or ‘these aid organisations put the money into their own pockets anyway’ instead of making a difference themselves. In addition to extinguishing the vital habitat of numerous indigenous tribes in the Amazon region, the more than 80,000 fires that are now raging also threaten OUR world climate. However, the consequences will only become apparent in the coming years. It is therefore difficult for experts to determine to what extent the consequences will be felt.
I find it important that labels as well as artists and other people in public life derive a positive benefit from their role model function and draw attention to important topics. Because apart from parties, releases and everything that goes with them, there is a world out there where we all live together. I believe that for the preservation of our species it is necessary to be more conscious and sustainable with our environment. Everything else makes no sense.
